OUR VERY OWN ICEBOX
As we continue settling into this 154-year-old home and uncovering its stories, we have discovered some incredible treasures along the way. One of our favorite finds was realizing we have our very own original ice box that was hidden behind two large refrigerators for a decade! Our goal is to restore this beautiful piece of history and give it new life as our guest refrigerator.
THE GRAND STAIRCASE
One of our neighbors gave us some great advice recently. In addition to keeping a (very long and detailed) To-Do list, also log wins and successes. Acknowledging our wins and accomplishments is important so we don’t forget how far we have come even if the To-Do list is still long and still growing.
Enter our Grand Staircase.
When we first moved in, it was draped in smelly 30 year old red carpet. The banister was unstable. We were very lucky to find a carpenter who made our staircase safe, solid, and beautiful. She was finished this month, ahead of schedule and ready for another 154 years!
THE CUSHING SUITE
We would like to introduce you to our biggest suite. The Cushing Suite pays homage to the inn’s history as the Cushing Manor Inn & Tea Room and honors the mansion’s founding family. This will be our largest and most luxurious suite, featuring beautiful quarter sawn oak flooring and II’ ceilings. There is a large bay window that we will turn into cozy seating area. The private, 170 sq ft spa bathroom may be South Bend’s largest.
This month, we focused on removing old carpet, and restoring the quarter sawn oak floor.
